RCC Pep Band Becomes “6th Man” in Tigers Upset of Saddleback!
State Champions! Has a great ring to it, doesn’t it? That’s exactly what the RCC Men’s basketball team can call themselves now – California Community College Athletic Association CHAMPIONS! And their “6th Man,” led by drum major Kurt Kilgus, was there through it all!
After driving 5 hours – each way! – to support the team in their quarterfinals game on Thursday night, at the Selland Arena in Fresno, a lot of RCC band members returned for the semi-final contest on Saturday afternoon. Today – Sunday, March 15, those who stayed over night joined forces with the reinforcements that drove up – 28 excited players in all – expecting a great game. And they got one!
RCC led most of the afternoon, but Saddleback stormed back to tie the game at the end of regulation, 58-58! In an historic match up, surrounded by so many traditions and ghosts from the past, the Tigers prevailed, actually outscoring the Gauchos 10-2 in the OT period! Congratulations team! Congratulations band – what a weekend of round ball it was!
For a GREAT article on the game, MEN’S BASKETBALL WINS STATE TITLE, UPSETS SADDLEBACK. Read all about it! And when you see an RCC bb player – or coach – or pep band member, just say “thanks” for representing us so well!
A special THANKS for our RCC alumni for joining in on the fun. We couldn’t have it without them. Many thanks to Jeff Helms, Jeremy Buckley, Adam Akimoto and Vance Hu for their contributions to our success!
