Mark Your Calendar! “New Member Night,” Thursday, August 19 at 6pm
In a slight chance in strategy, RCC “Marching Tigers” Director Gary Locke announced this week that the annual “new member day” would actually now be a ‘night’ instead, allowing the group to ‘get moving’ sooner this summer. “I think it’s important to get started on our BOA show as soon as possible and this is about the soonest we can start, considering all of our performers who will be gone for DCI,” Locke said. “This way, we’ll welcome our new members – explain everything, do some ‘listening’ to the new winds, do some marching and be better prepared for our first ‘full day’ of band camp that will take place on Saturday, Aug 21. The ‘buzz’ about our “Les Miserables” show is beginning to build already!”
YOU are invited! Thursday night, August 19 will include an orientation meeting in the HG101 band room, giving the staff a chance to explain registration, the fall schedule, travel plans AND the BOA show – followed by listening sessions with James Rocillo (brass) and Thom Morales (ww). This evening session is intended for ALL new winds, color guard and percussion, giving Locke a chance to introduce all new members to the “RCC way of doing things,” an ice-breaker of sorts, coupled with some ‘getting to know you – musically’ time as well. The ‘opening session’ for potential color guard & percussion will not involve any stress – no rehearsal!
+ Band Camp begins on Thursday, August 19 – ALL new members: winds, drums, color guard, 6pm-10pm
+ Band Camp continues on Saturday, Aug 21
9am-9pm for ALL winds, new members & returning members (no color guard or pit on Sat)
