RCC Indoor Percussion wins their 5th WGI Championship!

wgi-bannerFinishing their 2015 competitive season as they started it: undefeated, the RCC winter drumline not only entertained thousands of people last night in the sold-out University of Dayton Arena, but also impressed the adjudicators enough to set a new world record for a marching percussion ensemble by winning the WGI Gold Medal – AND earning a record-setting score of 98.563!

The hard-working 41 Riverside City College percussionists presented their ecologically-themed show entitled “Guardians of the Breath” as a kind of a musical wake-up call, warning of the dangers of the habits of our human lifestyle killing off our trees (the guardians). Amazingly sophisticated, yet accessible to spectators, fans and judges alike, the production often moved at break-neck speed, included the felling of the futuristic-looking steel trees, and ended on a hopeful note with the introduction of a new, young tree.
