After all of the talk about RCC becoming a Blue Devils Performing Arts ensemble—the meetings, the planning, the brain-storming creative sessions, and the practices—there finally came a time to actually get out and do what they do best: PERFORM! And what a performance it was! At the season-opening SCPA contest at Chino Hills High School, the 41-members of RCC came to play, impressing the audience as well as the panel of experienced adjudicators.
It’s official! Riverside City College has agreed that RCC Indoor Percussion will become a program of BD Performing Arts organization, joining a very prestigious list that includes the 16-time DCI World Champion The Blue Devils and the 4-time DCI Open Class Champion Blue Devils B! “Wow, this is very exciting news,” said RCC Director Gary Locke. “This partnership agreement increases our stability and allows us to remain consistent in our approach: providing our students with the best educational experience possible, while maintaining our goal of being on the cutting edge, always striving to be the best!”
Mark Your Calendar! Then “tell a friend” and help spread the word: the 2015 Winter Drum Line season actually starts on the weekend of September 19 as RCC holds their annual tryouts! There are openings in every section, just plan to arrive early – dressed ready to march, drum, work hard the entire weekend – and have a blast!
Mark Your Calendar! Then come out and ‘catch their act’ at the SCPA Championships as the award-winning RCC Winter Drum Line prepares to take their 13th consecutive trip to the WGI Championships – at the University of Dayton Arena, in Dayton, Ohio. In what has become a great tradition, the Southern California Percussion Alliance provides a great send off – a ‘last chance’ to get nervous and entertain the crowd as drum lines compete at the SCPA Prelims at Great Oak HS on Sat & Sun, March 29 & 30, with the SCPA Championships set for the arena at Cal-State, San Bernardino – on Saturday, April 5th!
